One of the biggest trends in magic in the past few years has been the popularity of Rubik's cube routines. This resurgence can be attributed to several factors, including the cube's iconic status as a puzzle that has captivated minds since its invention in the 1970s. Magicians around the world have embraced the Rubik's cube not only as a challenging brain teaser but also as a versatile prop that can be seamlessly integrated into various magic performances.
The appeal of Rubik's cube routines lies in their unique combination of skill, dexterity, and visual astonishment. When performed well, these routines can leave audiences spellbound as they witness the seemingly impossible transformations of the cube. Magicians such as Dan Harlan and Steven Brundage have gained significant recognition for their innovative approaches to incorporating the cube into their acts, showcasing not only their technical prowess but also their ability to engage and entertain spectators. The rise of social media platforms has certainly played a crucial role in popularizing Rubik's cube magic as well. Videos showcasing impressive cube manipulations, quick solves, and mind-bending tricks can easily go viral.
As "the Retro Magician" incorporating a rubik's cube routine should be a no-brainer. And of course I have been working on one, however it hasn't earned a permanent spot in my act because I'm still searching for a unique way to present it that also gives me an opportunity to showcase my humor and personality. I hope that once I develop the right presentation it will become a highlight of my shows.
